MS episode 142:: Shannon Fraser Designs

ep141art-shannon fraser

I am delighted to have Shannon Fraser on the podcast for a chat today. Shannon has been a long time listener of the Modern Sewciety Podcast and a reader of The Stych. She is always so kind to send me messages of encouragement and we have really struck up a great online friendship. Our hope is, of course, to meet in person one day soon. Shannon also has her own amazing website and newsletter. Shannon is a fierce creative with a passion for color and I so love her for that. She embraces her love of the color coral and I am pretty sure she tries to sneak it in every project she can. Shannon and I chat about what inspires her creative process, her new patterns that she is releasing, newsletters, and, of course, newsletters. We love to chat about newsletters and business. Shannon is just the sweetest person you will ever meet with a heart of gold. I am so excited to share this chat with you, my listeners. Please welcome Shannon to the podcast and show her some listener love.

MS episode 141:: Svetlana from S.O.T.A.K. handmade

ep141art sotak

Svetlana from S.O.T.A.K. handmade is someone I have followed via her amazing blog and social media accounts for a long time. I love her classicly modern patterns and playful handmades. I also love seeing how she mixes fabrics in her projects. Her latest posts boast bags made with waxed canvas which makes me want to make my own version right away. Svetlana is fearless with her creative endeavors which range from making bags to quilts to hand stamping her own prints. We chat about her patterns, her creative process, and I ask all the business questions because I am a huge admirer of her business model. I get all of the information about her gorgeous photographs of her makes and why she has decided to keep her personal life out of her business life. She seriously has some of the cutest photographs on her blog and social media. I left this conversation so inspired to think about my own business in a new way as well as my creative life. Svetlana also has an amazing resource of tutorials that I will make sure to link to in the show notes.  (more…)

ModSew:: check it out, my list of must sees

Check out the sales from our sponsors and also what I am crushing on this week!

Fabric Spark is an online fabric shop in Canada. I have curated several blogger bundles for Daryl and she is ALWAYS so much fun to bounce ideas off of. I can’t say I am the best at putting a bundle together but I send her my ideas and we chat until we both love it. You can curate your own bundle this weekend for Mother’s Day and get a mystery fat quarter too! She says this is a very popular event for her shop. No promo code needed.

I have always loved the classes I take on Creativebug. I think they are top notch and I really do make the projects and love them. I have chatted on the podcast lately about wanting to have a loom to play around with when we travel or camp. I found the amazing loom class by Annabel Wrigley on Creativebug and loved it. I was about to go purchase all of the loom materials when I spotted this loom in target for $9.99 and thought it was too good to pass up. So I can’t wait to put it to use with all of the information from Annabel’s class.

This weekend is Mother’s Day and Creativebug is having a great sale that is too good to pass up! $25 for a year of classes and 15% off fabric.com! Go check it out. (this is an affiliate link. I do get a small commission if you sign up but I would recommend them no matter what!)

Another sponsor of the podcast that has supported Modern Sewciety from the beginning is Fat Quarter Shop. I am always amazed at the various products Kimberly stocks but also the quilt kit and sew alongs she hosts. AND she is on youTube, you won’t be disappointed following her informative videos!

She has a new Sew Sampler subscription quilting box. I received the first box and loved it. I can’t wait to use the tools and fabric to sew up a great project.

And I am totally crushing on Anna from Noodlehead’s Carkai Gatherer Crossbody Bag. I have a cross body that someone gifted me and I love it but I want to make my own to add and delete some things about my current bag I need! Am I the only one that thinks about the changes you can make to store bought anything?!?!

So I will have to keep you updated… I think I am going to make one of these up very very soon. And if you haven’t visited Noodlehead‘s website well you are missing out. Anna has been on the podcast several times as well! Go take a listen to episode 078 for the latest chat.

And let’s not forget all of the camping research I have done lately! I think some of the things have helped me be better prepared but no one not one person can prepare you for sleeping in a tent with others around you in a campground. Whoa!

Screen Shot 2016-05-03 at 11.34.30 AM

Your Own Home Store has a great set of lists of things you will need. It is even easy to add and take things off of to fit your families needs. I made a big bin that has helped so much to have ready when we start packing.

Screen Shot 2016-05-03 at 11.38.53 AM

The one thing I really have loved the most is the portable camp shower. I fill it up when we get there and hang it up to heat. I place a small tub/bowl I got from the dollar tree under it with soap. I usually hang a towel close by as well. We use it to wash our hands, rinse off the sand, wash any cooking utensils, etc. It is so handy to have at the camp site for sure.

Screen Shot 2016-05-03 at 11.48.18 AM

I also take the kids portable Ikea potty to put in the tent for midnight potty breaks. My husband usually gets up super early so he usually grabs it on the way out of the tent, dumps and rinses it for us. You can also put a bag over it and just throw away the bag. Hey people potty breaks in a tent in a campground with kids are not on the “Oh My Gosh This is So Much Fun” list! Just sayin’ and keepin’ it real.

We have the one above called the Lattsam but it looks like they have replaced that model with a similar Lilla model. At $3.99 you can’t beat the price and it is so easy to wipe out because it is one solid piece.
